1. A strong intro w/ some veterans to set the tone
2. A powerful showcase by a well-known MC
3. And some late night surprise guests
This week at EOW we had all of these elements in perfect alignment and it resulted in another CLASSIC night at End Of the Weak!
1. We started out w/ a strong intro from Zoo, Veezy and guest host Jess Jamez Figureroa. Jess is an EOW vet and its always good to get some new blood into the mix. It was Propaynes B-Day weekend so he got to take the night off but he stepped up and brought MAD energy to the intro w/ some animal freestyles and he returned later for a proper solo set. After the intro
Mirak went in-Song List took us through the R&B chamber, Top $ Raz did his numbers, C-Spit and Backwordz did a new joint and Khalil Kash put it down like a veteran! Then it was time for the first surprise of the night
Scram Jones(EOW's 1st DJ and founding member) came through and did a new joint. He also blacked out the lights and used a remote control to light-up his T-shirt that had equa lizers glowing on it! A classic surprise moment and everyone who had their camera phones got a special treat for the night.
Propayne then jumped on and went into his special B-Day showcase. Needless to say P tore the roof off w/ cuts like "O", "Intro" and my personal favorite "Prey". Salute P and Happy Born! You work really hard and we appreciate it!
2. Then it was time to give our core audience a treat. We decided that in '08 we would always try and surprise our true supporters w/ some extra Hip-Hop excitement for the same $10 that they spend every week. This week we brought some classic music to the Pyramid, drum roll please... Dres from Black Sheep! Dres ran through some new material as well as hit the crowd w/ classics like 'In the Meantime', 'Fever for the Flavor' and of course 'The Choice is Yours'. Two interesting things to note: 1. In modern day Hip-Hop we always refer to an MC's presence or 'swagger' and it was cool to see that Dres was and still is overflowing w/ swag. His presence on stage is tough and he spits articulately & effortlessly. 2. During Dres set he stopped 3-4 times to comment on how dope he thought EOW was. He vehemently expressed how impressed he was w/ the hosts, the MC's, the music and the crowd. (Just some nice confirmation for those of us who do it to death.)
3. The late night at EOW always brings some treats. Shout-out to Ryze, Flix & Brammage, Al Be Back and the Jersey born, freestyle-demon known as CF. He stepped on stage in the late-night hours and WENT-IN!!! To those of us 'in the know', we are already aware of what CF is capable of - but to the newbies - I know you went home with some stories about the dude from Jersey who freestyled like he was possessed. Yeah that's him!
Shout-out to Doug, Sharyn, Xxtra, Chunk, None, Bong, Cali & DJ DP One who came through to spin for the night and did a great job! Another classic night at the DUB!
