Hip Hop, I hope you were up bright and early to catch EOW's own Vice Verses and Zoo hosting Rock Steady's 32nd anniversary outdoor free concert in NJ. This has been an EOW tradition for the last six years that I'm sure will continue on for many more. So for those of you that missed Sean Price, Roxanne Shante, Cormega, Rugged and Raw, Evil Dee, Dujeous, Jeru the Damaja, and an EOW fam set that included Angel and Mazzi rockin singles and a last minute security over ride to let a very late Iron Solomon on stage. If you missed all that, you should have some regrets. It was less security, beautiful day, kids were playing, great food, sun shine...or so we thought!!!
As the fam prepped for Method Man and Redman and other super surprises, EOW member James Bong informed us “that the storm would come in 9 minutes”. We thought is he our new weather fortuneteller because just as he said that the clouds started to darken and the wind followed. Had I known he meant the sky would open up, roads would flood, umbrellas would seem like paper, Jordan's would be forever damaged, I would have hauled ass! Instead we waited for the monsoon and lightning, to move merchandise, collect kids, and find our cars. Show over!!! Then 20 minutes later, then sun had the nerve to show its face again!! This didn't help the NJ's roads famous for flooding at all and made it holy hell leaving Jerz!! Hahaha But it was so worth it!!
If you happened to have a spare outfit in the whip, crib close, or blew dried yourself at Mc Donald's, then you had to come to EOW's home the Pyramid! (If you were really hard body hip hop, that's was your schedule! :) More surprises!! We started the open mic night cypher with not 3, not 4, but 5 members of the dub. Zoo, Vice, Jess, Angel, and Sara kana were not playing with this one and if you missed that you really messed up... Sorry, undescribable but as is a lot of great surprises at EOW! Also if you came to get on that list early you were lucky to hear the exclusive sounds of resident DJ Vinyl Richie. How does he get these records?? Seriously!!
Now all the hungry emcees were ready to put their work in. Dan Jose and B fresh Big baller came out real tough. One was even wearing a rag over his face, heads thought they might just stick somebody on stage! Good thing the Ghetto Terrorists followed that with heavy armor. Marco wasn't playing when he told everybody to Die too! That brings us up to Jigsaw The Puzzler, who really had a great showcase. Very nice flow and his boy came up and bodied it as well and backed him up. His showcase started off so perfectly that I thought V Richie had just put on a crazy beat for him, but it was just good preparation on his part. Well done Jigsaw, EOW salute!
Can't forget the ladies to, because Matriarch did her no recession joint and it was extra hard. Dutch Vega, Hot Rizzo, B'way had hot joints. Ryze killed it as usual with Where You From and Young Dougie had equally dope energy. Coololoosh came all the way from Isreal to bless us with a few dope freestyles. Definitely not what anyone expected, super talented brother with a smooth flow.
Last but not least Oktober started his showcase from the crowd, which gave a dope effect. He had super energy and great songs that the crowd loved! Honestly his time was over and everyone was feinding to hear the next joint. He really hit em and split em and left heads wanting more. Thats how you do it!!!
Finally the night ended with a big Baltimore set, when like 12 heads returning to EOW for the second time dominated the list. Shouts to D-Nasty, Straight Kash, Lady-T, Capitol P, Lord Bairus and MC 44. Like Ryze said “Rep your hood, rep your city, rep your state kid!”
