On March 7th 2004 END OF THE WEAK embarked on its first journey to Paris, France. We were received with open arms and partnered up with some of the most dominant concert promoters in the city. After a 4 year run which included: a successful Open Mic, a DVD release, a complete Paris MC Challenge Season, a National Championship, and 2 French MC Challenge Finals. The EOW France chapter seemed unstoppable. But unfortunately we were not able to organize an event in 2008. The Parisian Hip Hop public has been restless for the last year, anticipating EOW’s resurrection. I am proud to say…the wait is over…
EOW France Recap: July 30th 2009
I arrived very early to find most of our in house gunners were already on deck. Warlock, Aladoum, Mic Orni, Artik, Kizito, Calvin, and Philemon we all scheduled to perform. DJ Keri and Nicholson were in the house. Raheem and Sammy Jackets were holding down the door, doing a lot of running, etc. It was like old times.
The venue, Jamel Comedy Club, is kind of a big deal. The staff was extremely professional and hospitable. We only had 3 hours to do the show so we went in as soon as the house was packed. The capacity in the club is about 200 people and from what I heard there was another 150 outside the club who couldn’t get in because the spot was soooo packed. It was mayhem!!!! 2 shows…one inside..one outside In the streets!
Warlock and I hosted the event, and started with a freestyle session. We went straight to the list, selecting 4 MC’s at a time and they spit 2 verses a piece. DJ Keri and Nicholson let off gunshot and their trademark shot clock buzzer for any MC we declared a Gunner/Animal.
One of the highlights of the night was when this little kid who had to be no older than 13 got on stage to spit, the crowd was with him but he was mad nervous. I was bugging out when he got on stage, like “How’d you get in the club? Where are your parents?” After the Open Mic we went in with the MC Challenge Demo, which was nuts! Aladoum, Calvin, and Artik handled the DJ vs MC round. Keri and Nicholson went in on those guys…it was no walk in the park…but when Keri dropped that Billie Jean and ya boy Artik started Moonwalking while he was spitting… the crowd erupted!!! Mic Orni, Kiz, and Phil handled the Freestyle Bag.
Everyone did their thing but Phil is from another planet. He may be one of the best MCs I’ve ever seen in the Freestyle Round. He even walked out into the crowd with the cordless mic while me and Warlock tossed a few items out to him…it was classic. Then we did Cipher Skillz and all of the MCs got it in on some Wu Tang shit. If that wasn’t enough, Cassidy from X Men (a legendary French Hip Hop Group) hit the stage and blessed the unsuspecting crowd with an impromptu performance. It was a night to remember.
Big shout to all of our staff (Especially The EODUB PARIS GIRLS), Comedy Club’s Staff, All of the MCs, and all the people who showed up to support this International Hip Hop movement known as….END OF THE WEAK!
